Personal Background: Leibovitz was raised in a Jewish home and grew up around Jewish culture. She attended the San Fransisco Art Institute and majored in photography. In 1970 she became a staff photographer at the rolling stones to start her career. In 1973 she was named the chief photographer at the rolling stones for ten years. She then worked for Vanity fair for celebrity photography. In 1987 she won a Clio award due to an advertisement job she did with American Express.
Style: She is famous for her iconic portraits of a variety of different celebrities. The celebrities she's photographed are usually really relevant to society such as John Lennon, Barack Obama, and Queen Elizabeth. For her photos she requires a good amount of lighting so that all details show on the portraits. Leibovitz has a quite popular use of using vivid color on her photos. Her images are also described by many as dramatic rather than casual.
Philosophy: This artist's main philosophy is to express the beliefs a famous person has and bring it to the public. For instance she took a peaceful image of John Lennon very still, and he wanted to bring peace and charm throughout the world. If a celebrity wants a dramatic portrait of themselves, Leibovitz will take a dramatic photo to express the celebrities desires. The colors shown in some of her portraits are shown to create more detail and interest in the portrait. Much of her portraits want to express a persons impact on society as well as politics.
Influences: She was inspired by Robert Frank and Henri Bresson which she learned about in school. Her mother inspired her enthusiasm for music, art, and culture. She developed her photography skill while occupying a various amount of jobs over time. She decided to change careers after she had her first photography workshop. Her portrait examples helped me get a better idea on what to do on my portraits and double exposure projects.

The similarity between this photo of John lennon and the one of my Grandpa is it has a similar plain background . This blocks any distraction from the portrait and have the viewer focus on the main interest. I also used a black and white style portrait to make it look old and unique much like she did with her photo. My grandpa and John Lennon are both wearing dark clothing as well to give a a more contrasted look. Overall, I am satisfied look at both images of people I look up to.
Leibovitz isn't usually a nature photographer but I really like this photo of a tree she took. It has a dark and creepy tone on the picture and makes you wonder a lot of stuff about the image. I feel the same way when I look at my image of a tree. Both of our images can be viewed as a simple sample of nature. Both of our images also have a more detailed background instead of just a focal point.
This is a photo of Susan Sontag in a water type background. The photo of my mom was takin in a relatively similar water type background as well. There is no distractions in either pictures however in my moms photo you can better tell where she's at. My mom also isn't showing much body language in her photo unlike Sontag who is. I overall like both of the photos very much.

My photos all have a unique back story to them and a fun to tell. My Grandpa's portrait was taken while I was enjoying a vacation down in florida and we we're on a boat. The image of my tree was taken in the abbot woods while I was picking up my sister in school. I felt the viewing of the tree was a nice shot and shows much detail as well. The picture of my mom was taken during a cruise to the bahamas and I got a good shot of her with a clear ocean background,
